Active ingredient: Propantheline bromide

Brand Name: Pro-Banthine

Drug class: Antispasmodic

Mechanism of Action:

Propantheline Bromide is an antimuscarinic agent primarily used to treat conditions such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), muscle spasms in the stomach, intestines, or bladder, and involuntary urination (enuresis). It is also effective for controlling symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and similar disorders.

Mechanism of Action
Propantheline blocks muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in various smooth muscle tissues (gut, bladder, etc.). Under normal conditions, acetylcholine binds to these receptors, triggering smooth muscle contractions.

Effect on fertility biomarkers

Effects on Temperature Regulation Decreased sweating reduces the body’s ability to cool itself, potentially leading to heat intolerance and hyperthermia. Effects on Mucus Production Reduced mucus production in the respiratory and digestive tracts, leading to dry airways and constipation. Dry mouth is a common side effect due to reduced salivary gland secretion.
