Active ingredient: Goserelin

Brand Name: Zoladex

Drug class: Antiandrogen

Mechanism of Action:

Goserelin is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist used to treat hormone-dependent conditions like breast cancer, prostate cancer, endometriosis, and uterine fibroids.

Mechanism of Action:
Goserelin initially stimulates the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), but prolonged use causes downregulation of GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland. This reduces the production of estrogen and testosterone, effectively leading to a temporary hormonal suppression.

Effect on fertility biomarkers

Temporary infertility: By suppressing LH and FSH, Goserelin halts ovulation and causes reversible infertility. Ovulation and menstrual cycles typically return after stopping treatment. Due to the significant drop in estrogen, Goserelin often triggers menopausal-like hot flashes. Hot flashes can cause fluctuations in basal body temperature, potentially affecting normal temperature patterns during treatment.
