Mechanism of Action:

Desloratadine is a long-acting antihistamine that works by selectively blocking H1 receptors, preventing the effects of histamine, which reduces symptoms of allergic reactions such as sneezing, itching, and runny nose. Unlike some older antihistamines, it has minimal sedative effects because it doesn’t easily cross the blood-brain barrier.

One of the side effects of desloratadine is the drying of mucous membranes, including those in the mouth, nose, and throat. This drying effect can also extend to cervical mucus, reducing its production and potentially altering its consistency
