Mechanism of Action:

Cimetidine is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist primarily used to reduce stomach acid production and treat conditions like gastric ulcers and acid reflux. It works by blocking the H2 receptors in the stomach lining, which decreases the release of stomach acid.

Effect on fertility biomarkers

Cimetidine, stimulates prolactin (PRL) secretion. The release of PRL after a bolus injection of the compound is more pronounced during the luteal than during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. Luteal progesterone was significantly diminished in the menstrual cycles when cimetidine was given.
