Active ingredient: Acetazolamide

Brand Name: Diamox

Drug class: Diuretics

Mechanism of Action:

Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that reduces the reabsorption of bicarbonate in the kidneys, leading to increased urine output and a more acidic urine. It is primarily used to treat glaucoma, altitude sickness, epilepsy, and sometimes edema.

Effect on fertility biomarkers

Acetazolamide decreased progesterone levels in serum and uterine fundus and increased corticosteroid levels in the adrenal glands. Lower progesterone and altered hormonal balance may contribute to a decrease in libido.
